Horner & Shifrin Expands Firm’s Complete Streets Group and Multimodal Services
Laurel Harrington, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP BD+C and Mike Albin have joined Horner & Shifrin as Complete Streets Planners.

Laurel Harrington, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP BD+C is Horner & Shifrin’s Senior Complete Streets Planner with 30 years of experience in the fields of planning and landscape architecture. Her specializations include business district redevelopment planning, campus development, and urban design for municipal and institutional clients. Her public realm experience in streetscape, bike/ped facilities, downtown/business district revitalization, and redevelopment planning is reinforced by opportunities for Great Streets and federally-funded projects. In addition to this work, Laurel has a design background in parks and recreation, prairie restoration, nature playscapes, and people-space projects throughout the Midwest.
Laurel is a licensed Landscape Architect in the states of Missouri and Illinois. She is a LEED Accredited Professional, with a specialty in Building Design + Construction, and a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Laurel has received multiple St. Louis ASLA and Central States Merit and Honor Awards and is a co-author of the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) Handbook “Building a Community Garden”.
Laurel is an alumna of Michigan State University, School of Landscape Architecture with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, cum Laude. She currently serves as Vice President of Emerging Professionals for the St. Louis Chapter ASLA Executive Committee.

Mike Albin is a transportation planner with extensive experience in the integration of transportation facilities with adjacent neighborhoods. Mike’s expertise includes the execution of projects which address opportunities and needs in active transportation plan development. Mike approaches his projects with the goal of addressing community vision and desires relative to infrastructure improvement, livable streets and overall system improvements to support local, county and regional efforts for connectivity and mobility. Mike has worked on regional and local planning and coordination efforts involving multiple stakeholders. His responsibilities have included the development of technical information for plans, as well as documentation of existing conditions, for which recommendations were developed to specifically address community needs and the desire for connectivity in the overall transportation network.
Mike is an alumnus of Saint Louis University with a Master of Science in Urban Planning and Development, and an alumnus of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Community and Regional Planning.
