Overview
Horner & Shifrin provided construction administration services for improvements to Canton Ave – Phase 1 between Hanley Road and North & South Roads. H&S staff performed on-site inspections, oversaw testing, and aided in LPA documentation for pedestrian and roadway improvements for University City as part of MoDOT’s LPA program. The project included a 0.4 mile mill and overlay, ADA upgrades, pavement repairs/markings, improved signage, and sidewalk replacement.
H&S provided daily inspections of the sites activities such as concrete pours, excavation, removals, and milling/overlay. Overseeing testing and quality assurance, unexpected site conditions, and completion of proper LPA documentation for the City. Also, performed CUF interviews, wage rates, approved pay applications, oversaw materials testing, collected all materials tickets, kept daily & pay diaries, performed project closeout documentation, wrote up all change orders, and oversaw erosion control practices. Project consisted of over 4000 LF of sidewalk replacement, 49 driveway apron replacements, tree trimming and removal, ADA ramp placement, and full depth pavement repairs. Our field staff monitored and coordinated daily with the contractor documenting activities to ensure accountability and a quality product. Construction staff delivered valuable site information to our engineering team for unforeseen field conditions resulting in a plan changes, saving the City money.
This portion of Canton Avenue is frequently used by pedestrians. Enhanced sidewalks in this corridor provide residents and visitors better access to parks, businesses, Metro Bus routes and provide a safe path for students.
