Overview
Horner & Shifrin provided MEPFP and low voltage engineering design services for the new 2-story, 21,810 square foot Police Station in the City of Creve Coeur. This building includes 5-holding cells, three-bay sally port, large evidence storage rooms, fitness room, offices and training rooms.
At the start of the project, the design team was tasked to work with the local utility company on eligible rebates available and provide and energy efficient system to reduce the overall operating cost of the building. Due to the quantity high volume of exhaust air in the building, energy recovery unit was utilized to temper the outdoor air being delivered to the rooftop unit and reduce the overall building energy consumption.
A full building automation system was implemented to control the systems based on the actual building load, occupant schedules and supply air temperature reset. Other means of energy saving utilized were occupancy sensors, LEED lighting fixtures, low flow plumbing fixtures and high efficiency water heaters. The project was awarded rebates from the local utility company based on electrical consumption savings with energy efficient measures implemented.
